M2M Solution Components

Technology entities typically incorporated within the M2M system includes:

The Remote Machine

The remote machine is the key element of the End-to-End M2M solution where communication is required. Intelligent machines provide usage and status information often available at local ports. This information can be accessed via proprietary, industry specific or open standard protocols either internally or external to the equipment.

M2M Hardware

The M2M hardware element of the End-to-End M2M solution enables the remote machine to communicate over the network. Status and control information is transferred over a communication network to a central server. It may be transferred directly to customers' central applications or via middleware.

Networks & the Internet

Public networks and the Internet are elements of the End-to-End M2M solution that provide "plumbing" for central IT systems and remote machines to exchange information. Comtech provide M2M hardware solutions for GSM, GPRS, Ethernet and PSTN networks and the Internet.

Middleware

Middleware is an element of the End-to-End M2M solution that provides routing, buffering, formatting and management of the End-to-End M2M data flow.

M2M Services

M2M services are a key element of the End-to-End M2M solution to deliver information to end customers and host applications.

Customer Applications

The customers' application is the often the legacy element of the End-to-End M2M solution such as a back-office system, where customers are looking to automate a manual process of machine data collection.

User Devices

The final element of the End-to-End M2M solution where user devices such as PC's, Mobile phones and PDA's provide the human interface for system administration, reports and alarm notification.
